"RTW 2007 installment #4 (Nov 9)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-10 03:27:08

Doyle is officially 10 months old today. Where has the time gone?! Anyway we were up bright and early at the bold time of 6am to pack and check out by 7am. We then caught the first taxi we found to the airport. My final lasting thought on Lisbon is this: Why are there so many one or no-legged people in the city? I’m not against the disabled in the slightest there just seemed to be a whole lot more of these people in Lisbon than I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Upon getting to our gate at the airport. I found a wifi zone and decided to check it out. Jeremy says I somehow managed to hack the system to get free WWW Internet access because he couldn’t get the free access himself and had to pinch my computer temporarily in order to post his change to his Portugal blog entry. I just chose free local access as my first choice then went back and chose the access of the logo I’d seen in the area. I figured it was all free so I just told Jeremy to do my second choice. So that’s where I posted my blog from yesterday - Lisbon airport. Pretty much the entire rest of the day was spent flying to Rio de Janeiro where we are now. It was something like 10 hours or so. The main highlight of the flight was that I got to watch the Transformers movie finally. I enjoyed it quite a bit and a few spots definitely had me in a fit of giggles. We arrived in the city at approximately 6:10pm Rio time. It took forever for our luggage to come through and Doyle’s stroller was one of the last things to come off the plane. Then once we got through customs we couldn’t find an ATM. They were all lopped together in the most inconvenient place possible. Then Jeremy couldn’t use his card in any of them. He eventually had to go back and find a money exchange place to get some cash. We get about 1.5 Reals for our dollar. That doesn’t necessarily mean things will be cheaper though. Our next task was to get to the apartment where we’re staying. The ONLY option for leaving the airport here is taxi. No trains no buses nothing. Although you can hire a car we weren’t about to do that. A taxi driver approached us and told us it would be 74 Reals or about AUD$50. Our eyes boggled because we thought that was expensive. So Jeremy went to check if another one would be cheaper. Our driver didn’t speak much English so while I was waiting with him. I said “mucho deniro” which means “a lot of money” in Spanish and I guess it does in Portuguese too because he understood me. He told me he could give us 10% off even though the cost he originally said was the standard price. Jeremy confirmed this when he returned. So all in all we didn’t do too badly if I managed to get a small discount by being able to speak Spanish! It was nearly 9pm maybe even later by the time we got to our apartment in Copacabana. It’s pretty nice and Jeremy did well choosing it. We even have free Internet access here! Jeremy probably especially appreciates that now that the IGF will be going on. We only really have one tourist day here. I realised and that will be tomorrow. This entry was posted on Saturday. November 10th. 2007 at 5:18 pm and is filed under. . "Suits and Socks, Installment VIII" posted by ~Ray

It was cool the other day and a reasonable temperature for tweed. That meant a charcoal and tan twill weave conform to (darker than the flash makes it appear) worn with dark brown brogues and pumpkin-colored socks. Above the waist a yellow banker's mark unify collar shirt worn pinned a pumpkin colored silk necktie with black and yellow stripes and an orange silk take form with small green figures. Very nice. Like that color combination. I am in the market for brogue lace-ups to wear with my brown pants and gray sportjacket. I was thinking of a tan from C&J above Turnbull & Asser. that's a wonderful color combo! displace around a tumbler of pumpkin spice latte and you're good to go john i looked at the Turnbull & Asser website i love the women's sweaters - i'm in preppy heaven! delivered to you automatically. "Stating the Obvious on Software Evaluations ? Sixth Installment" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 00:52:10

Contributed by David Barron – david barron@knowledge-infusion com. Principal Consultant. Knowledge InfusionIn this installment we ordain continue to investigate the six steps that I believe will lead companies to value in their software selections. The six steps are:1. Define Desired Business Outcomes2. Define the Decision Criteria3. evaluate the Potential Providers4. Engage the Providers5. care Software Demonstrations6. SelectionFourth step – Engage the ProvidersOnce you undergo your finalists you are create from raw material to contact the vendors. I always make personal communicate with all the providers for two reasons: one to explain to the ones who didn’t make the cut the reasons why (remember that every deal is a big deal to a sales representative) and tell the remainder of the affect for the ones who did make the cut. Up to this inform the details of any upcoming activities with the providers have probably been limited. Now is the measure to share everything about the process with the finalists. (Remember providers will always like to get engaged in a potential deal as early as possible. Try to time the creation of your business affect scenarios to coincide with the determination of provider finalists.) The typical items that should be ready to share are: the RFI including the scenarios the communicate timeline including detailed demonstration dates and expected contract signing dates any supporting documentation (performance review forms compensation plans competency definitions etc) and any details necessary about the procurement process. Be prepared to plan time with each provider to say questions about the RFI and the scenarios. This will be a good test for you: if you can answer the questions and the scenarios stand up to provider scrutiny then you have done a good job in creating them. Let the providers know that you are “an open schedule” on two fronts: one you are open to questions throughout the evaluation and two you ordain be honest with the negative/down align of the current environment. Those two things will ensure the providers can actually add value to your organization. You are now engaged and moving toward product demonstrations. We’ll cover that in the next installment.

"The ?Bible-based? trilogy, third & final installment" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 17:59:32

Your course of chew over will include an in-depth theology of reality some supplemental reading and various extra-curricular activities. Our virtual health ministry can provide you with innoculations against ignorance superstition and gullibility at no extra charge. The “Bible-based” trilogy third & final installment November 3. 2007 — The Professor While we’re on the affect of Bible-based Christianity. I thought I’d offer one closing thought: Bible-based Christianity is itself a testimony to God’s continuous and universal absence from the real world. If God were as involved in real life as the Gospel portrays Him as wanting to be. Christianity would be God-based not Bible-based. The Bible is a collection of ancient texts that were written by men branded as “inspired” by men selected by men (out of a much larger body of “inspired” texts) canonized by men (more than once with results that still do not accept) transmitted by men translated by men interpreted by men and applied by men. From beginning to end it is a bring home the bacon of men and the only reason why Christians base their religion on it is because God does not show up in real life to directly define the circumscribe of their faith.
